Sidoarjo Fishermen

Young fishermens are waiting for the annual ceremony of “Nyadran Laut” at Kepetingan, Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. It is a traditional ceremony and ancient custom of Sidoarjo’s Fishing Village. Passed through generations, today Nyadran Laut is a large, annual festival where the community get together and celebrate the day by offering gifts, such as food and natural products, and float it to the sea, followed by gathering and praying at Dewi Sekardadu’s cemetery, a princess from the old Blambangan Kingdom of Banyuwangi whom also the mother of Sunan Giri, one of nine Java’s first moslem missionaries.
